Our commitment to a sustainable future
Fishermen of tomorrow
At Cornelis Vrolijk, as a family business, we believe in taking responsibility - for our employees, the environment, fish stocks and the communities in which we operate.
For more than a decade, we have been working on sustainable business practices with the aim of ensuring healthy lives and vital seas for future generations.
Our sustainability policy is based on four pillars: sustainable harvesting, responsible processing, caring for people and healthy food. Within these pillars, we focus on key issues such as emissions reduction, biodiversity and circular materials. Together with our dedicated employees, we are achieving great results and remain committed to continuous improvement and innovation.
CSR Report 2023
This report sets out what we have achieved in 2023 and where our focus will be in the coming period.
Here are a few concrete examples. For example, the sustainable renovation of the office building in IJmuiden has been awarded a BREEAM 5-star certificate. And in addition to our ongoing contribution to scientific research to gather data on various fish stocks, we have participated in specific projects such as research around wind farms and experiments with underwater cameras to make fishing more selective. Improved recipes for our herring, resulting in less wastage, are helping to reduce food waste.

In this report, we look back at the results of our sustainability efforts across our family of companies.
In 2022, we further fleshed out our sustainability strategy and defined seven core themes: Care for People, Emissions on Land, Emissions at Sea, Chain Responsibility, Healthy Food, Circular Materials and Biodiversity and Ecosystems. In this report, you will read about the actions we have taken in each of these areas and the results we have achieved so far. We would like to highlight three great examples.
